The Trojans took advantage of six Eagle turnovers while committing none themselves, and players up and down the roster participated as Saint James took an early 13 - 0 lead and helped ruin Montgomery Academy's 2011 Homecoming with a 27 - 14 victory at McLemore Field in a sloppy, penalty-filled contest.

Just before kickoff, a front passed through which threatened but never delivered possible showers, yet it did freshen the breeze and directed it from the north, definitely benefiting teams traveling south on McLemore Field's playing surface.   Frank Moody returned the Eagles' opening kickoff to the 22.  For the first 11 scrimmage plays, Saint James marched methodically down the field, picking up anywhere from a few to a dozen or so yards on every play, sans one incomplete pass attempt.  Quarterback C.J. Duncan, and runners Moody and Walker Woodson, back from injury, did most of the early work.  A Duncan carry gave Saint James first down at the M A 11.  However, the drive stalled and Riley Newton was called in to attempt a short field goal against of the wind, of 28 yards, which he blasted against the concession stand roof for three points and the first score of the game.  The drive took up nearly half of the first quarter, as part of Saint James' absolute dominance of time of possession throughout this game.

A holding penalty on the Eagles on their second scrimmage play wiped out a nice gain, but a block in the back penalty on the later Trojan punt return was the sign of things to come - too many yellow flags on the field for the first three quarters of the game.  The Eagles held and took over after a punt on their own 40, but on first down Josh Thomas committed the first of six Eagle turnovers by fumbling away possession.  Duncan ran for 17 yards and a first down two plays later, and two plays later, Duncan tossed what would have been a touchdown pass to Jake Jabour for 31 yards.  However, holding was called during the quarterback scramble and Saint James was pushed back almost to midfield.  The drive stalled, and Wilson Adams' punt boomed into and through the endzone as the second quarter had begun and the Trojans had earned the wind advantage.

Thomas completed several short passes to Bo Starke, but an M A holding penalty stalled that drive, and several plays later a bad snap back to Thomas in the shotgun was pounced upon by Cal Cherry, giving Saint James excellent field position at the Eagle 15.   After a minor penalty, another sizable gain on a pass from Duncan to Jabour was wiped out by another holding penalty.  Two plays later, Newton was called on for his second field goal attempt, from 44 yards.  The kick would have been good from 64 with the wind, and the Trojans had scored again but held only a dubious 6 - 0 lead despite holding the Eagles without even a first down nearly 20 minutes into the game.

After an endzone kick by Newton and a first down sack, the Eagles punted again and Saint James retained possession after a muff of the punt.  Six plays later the Trojans tried to convert a fourth down and four on the Eagles 42, but Moody was stopped for only a one yard gain.  Three plays later, on what would have been the initial first down for M A as Thomas had broken loose on a quarterback keeper for 31 yards, the ball was knocked out and picked up by Trojan Kane Davenport who returned it back to the the Saint James 22.  Duncan tossed a pass to Walker Woodson, who hauled it in after tipping it to himself, picking up 20 yards.  Duncan was sparkling on a 23 yard scramble on the next play which should have been stopped for 3 or 4 yards maximum.  After a high snap led to a sack, Duncan lofted a pass with the win to Wilson Adams who dove for the ball in the endzone on the far side and came up with the catch for a 41 yard touchdown.  Austin Meadows was called in for the extra point, which he converted, and the Trojans were up 13 - 0 with just over a minute remaining in the half.

It was plenty of time for M A to finally get a first down and get on the scoreboard.  After an endzone kick, Jason Thompson ran for 18 yards on first down.  A questionable pass interference penalty moved the ball into Trojan territory.  On the next play, Thomas lofted a pass to Hampton Hook which was caught and taken down to the Trojan 3.  After a time out, Thomas called his own number for the three yard touchdown.  The extra point suddenly cut the lead back to 6 points, despite the fact Saint James had semmed to dominate so thoroughly in the first half.  On the last play of the half, Duncan lofted another deep pass to Adams which he reeled in for 37 yards, but he could only get as close as the Eagle 12 yard line and time expired before another play could be run.

The Eagles received to open the second half, and the Trojans chose to take the wind in the fourth quarter.  The kickoff was returned to the Eagle 33, and it appeared M A had some offensive pressure going, until a wayward pass was intercepted by Jake Jabour at the Trojan 23.  Saint James used up nearly 7 minutes of valuable third quarter clock; time with the wind advantage the Eagles could not control the ball.  Duncan and Woodson picked up most of the yardage on the ground, although Moody had a big 14 yard catch and run which advanced the ball to the M A 4.  An offside penalty cut the yardage to 2, and after a no gain, Duncan took an almost quick snap and barreled behind his center into the endzone for a touchdown.  Newton came on this time to attempt the extra point, which he nailed, and Saint James' lead was back up to 13 points at 20 to 7.

After a Newton kickoff nearly died at the two yard line after landing, the Eagles had to rush back and collect the ball before a Trojan fell on it.  They could only get as far as the 7 yard line on the return.  Saint James had the ball back after a three and out, but a booming 56 yard punt prevented excellent field position.  After two more penalties, including an intentional grounding penalty, the Trojans allowed the quarter to expire before they had to punt.  In the fourth quarter, the wind would be in their favor, but the wait almost backfired.  The deep punt was returned 28 yards into Trojan territory.  A block in the back penalty was called, one of at least three which occurred on the return, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the Trojan bench resulted in a net 5 yard gain after the penalties were marked off, and the Eagles were in business at their own 45.  Two plays later, a perhaps makeup holding penalty pushed the ball back further, and the Eagles were forced to punt again.

Saint James were faced with a fourth down and short again and went for it, despite being on their own end of the field.  Again, the yardage gained was not enough and M A took over on the Trojan 48.  However, on the very next play, Kane Davenport intercepted a Thomas pass and returned it about where the Eagles had started.  From there, Duncan took immediate command.  Scrambles for 9 and 4 yards advanced the ball to the 40, and he took off again up the middle, shifting to the far side once into the secondary, and he avoided at least three tackles as he pulled away into the endzone for Saint James' final touchdown.  Newton's extra point seemed to seal the deal at 27 - 7 with just over 7 minutes remaining.

The teams traded possessions four more times as the Trojan bench was emptied.  The Eagles took over on their own 21 yard line with 70 seconds and second and third string defenders in the game for Saint James.  A Starke reception for 11 yards proceeded another for 57 yards, and as time was running out the Eagles were on the Trojan 12.  After two incomplete passes and a five yard scramble, M A scored again on fourth down from the 7 and Thomas found a wide open Sterling Anderson in the endzone for a very late score.  After the extra point and an offside penalty on an onside kick attempt, Saint James receoved the second onside kick try easily and Griffin Slater was rewarded in his backup role with the game-ending victory kneeldown, and Saint James had thrice consecutively beaten M A for the third time in their continuous series since 1973.  Saint James topped the .500 mark for the first time all season, and looked forward to spoiling another Homecoming next week in the Trojans' first ever football trip to Headland.
