September 29, 2006.  7 PM  Carlisle Field.  Game Conditions:  Clear, brisk.  Game Temperature:  68  Wind:  Light, variable

Josh Hunter rushed for 5 touchdowns and nearly 250 yards, and Montgomery Academy took full advantage of 6 St. James turnovers, 5 in the first half, as the Eagles built a 34 - 0 lead and cruised to a 47 - 22 victory over the homestanding Trojans.

Unlike the previous week where the Trojans held Trinity scoreless for three plus quarters, the Eagles scored early and often.  After M A forced a three and out on St. James' opening drive, they were forced to punt as well.  However, St. James muffed the punt and it was covered by Pierce Cobb at the Trojan 10.  On the next play, Hunter busted off left tackle as he would do numerous times throughout the night for 10 yards and the first touchdown of the game.  Harris Brown's extra point gave M A an early 7 - 0 lead.

St. James again could not convert a first down, but a long Graham Sutter punt pushed the Eagles back to the 20.  They covered the 80 yards methodically in 11 plays.  A 17 yard Thomas Tyson pass to Cobb on third down was a key play.  After an offside penalty, Brown carried the final 5 yards for a touchdown and converted the extra point for a 14 point lead late in the first quarter.

A personal foul penalty wiped out a good portion of a fine kickoff return by St. James' Clinton Freeman.  The Trojans made it across midfield, but failed to convert a fourth down.  Four plays later, a Hunter 18 yard run, a Cobb 22 yard run, a Hunter 12 yard run, and a 4 yard keeper by Tyson gave the Eagles their third touchdown.  They quickly added a fourth after the Trojans fumbled on their first scrimmage play, and Hunter scored three plays later from 3 yards out.  Brown's extra point gave M A a 28 point lead less than 14 minutes into the game.

Two drives later, Tyson intercepted a Trojan pass and returned it to the St. James 37.  A 19 yard pass from Tyson to Brown was followed by 10 and 8 yard runs by Hunter, as he picked up his third touchdown of the game.  Trojan pressure forced a wide extra point attempt, but M A was up 34 - 0 still in the first half.

The Trojans threw another interception on the next drive, but M A returned the favor by fumbling on the next play which set up a St. James touchdown before halftime.  John Enslen completed four passes while overcoming a block in the back penalty.  A 13 yard completion to Nathan Newton was followed by a similar 13 yard completion to Clinton Freeman for a touchdown.  Graham Sutter's extra point gave the Trojans 7 points before halftime, and St. James attempted and successfully converted an onside kick.  However, that threat was stopped by the Eagles' third interception of the quarter two plays later.

Montgomery Academy took the second half kickoff, a failed onside attempt, and drove 44 yards in 8 plays on the ground.  Hunter carried for his fourth touchdown from 7 yards out.  Brown's extra point was blocked, but the Eagles had reached the 40 point plateau.  St. James responded, driving 67 yards on their initial second half drive.  A 20 yard completion from Enslen to Newton on third and 15 was a key play.  The Trojans lined up for a field goal on fourth and 5½ from the 15 yard line, but two consecutive offside penalties gave St. James a chance to score, and they did.  Enslen found Matt Dean, who had slipped and landed on his back, in the endzone for a 5 yard touchdown catch.  Enslen also tossed a two point conversion pass to Will Martin, and the score was 40 - 15 with nearly 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly eliminated as the Eagles recovered another onside kick, and Hunter scored his fifth touchdown of the night on the next play from 49 yards out.  Brown's extra point ended the Eagles scoring at 47, the most they have ever scored against the Trojans.

The Trojans, which had only gained 26 yards rushing in three quarters, got their running game in gear against Eagle substitutes.  Matt Dean, who ended the game with over 100 yards, picked up 16 and 30 yards on the same drive, and Will Martin carried for 20 yards and 1 yard for the final score of the game.

With less than 5 minutes remaining, the Eagles put their starting offense back in, and unfortunately for Josh Hunter it won't be his five touchdown performance which will be remembered by many.  On first down, he broke loose again on a 21 yard run, but after a clean tackle from behind, he turned around and retaliated by shoving, wrestling, and tackling the Trojan on the ground, requiring a personal foul penalty and an ejection from the ballgame.  Neither team threatened to score again as the Eagles remained undefeated and front-runners for the 2006 Capital City Conference championship.
