GAME 11: @ St. Clair County 48, St.
James 6
SCORING
SUMMARY: (not yet available)
November 15, 1996. Fighting Saints Field,
Odenville. Game conditions: Not yet available
For the second time in four years, the
Trojans were lucky enough to draw 3A Area 6 winner St. Clair County as
their first round playoff opponent on the road. This year, the
Fighting Saints were ranked # 5 coming into the playoffs with a 9 - 1
record, and despite looking forward to a likely matchup with the
top-ranked Briarwood Christian Lions in round two, they again rather
easily disposed of visiting St. James 48 - 6 in a first round playoff
matchup.
The Fighting Saint rushing game went wild as three different runners
picked up more than 100 yards each. Duriel Harwick led the way as
he carried for 141 yards, 80 of those on a
touchdown run, and he caught a 23 yard touchdown pass as well.
Antonio Jones rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns of 36, 36, and
45 yards. Maurice Vandergrift rushed for 107 yards, and returned
a punt 52 yards for a touchdown.
St. James did manage to score on the Saints this time, unlike their
first meeting, as Jake McMillan broke loose for a 50 yard run in the
third quarter. Despite the 50 yard touchdown run, the Trojans
could only manage a total of 44 yards rushing overall, and Alan Olsen
ended a record-breaking season for a Trojan quarterback by completing 8
of his 20 pass attempts for 90 yards.
