GAME 9:   ST. JAMES 62, Marbury 6

Highlights:  St. James celebrated Homecoming 1984 in grand style with their biggest points-wise defeat ever while clinching the 1A Area 9 championship with a 62 - 6 thumping of the Marbury Bulldogs.  Johnny Redding scored five touchdowns, three of them rushing, one on an 18 yard pass from Ben Gross, and another on a 55 yard punt return.  Jeff Stevenson was also responsible for three touchdowns, scoring on a 24 yard interception return and an 18 yard pass from Gross, and, as the backup quarterback, throwing his first touchdown pass since early in the season, an 8 yarder to Andy Johnson.  Tommy Aplin added a 33 yard run for the ninth touchdown, and Johnson broke a school record, one of many in this game, with 8 extra points in 9 attempts.  Marbury scored against the substitutes with 42 seconds left in the game on a 3 yard touchdown run.  Johnny Redding's 144 yards rushing on only 8 carries pushed him well over the 1000 mark, with 1156 yards on the season.  Kelly McGhee added 120 yards rushing to the total.
