St. James took advantage of 8 Handley errors and got the offense going
with a three run homer by C.J. Shaw
in the first inning as the Trojans moved to 4-0 in 4A Area 5 with a 5
innings 13-3 defeat of the Tigers. Handley
scored first, on a walk and a double by Lance Fisher. Further
damage was prevented when Brandon King picked
off Fisher at third base on a double steal attempt. The Trojans
rebounded in the bottom of the first with 3 runs,
all unearned. Bruce Alter, who singled, and Taylor Thompson, who
reached on a costly error, trotted home on the
Shaw homerun. Handley added another run in the second on a
single, a fielders choice, a single, and an error, and
starting pitcher Ethan Whittington was replaced by Mitch Lawrence, who
pitched 3 2/3 innings for the win. St. James
pulled away with 4 runs on only 1 hit and 4 Tiger errors in the second
inning and an unearned run in the third.
Shaw scored again in the fourth on his double, a ground out, and a wild
pitch. Justin Arnett hit a solo homerun for
the Tigers in the fifth, but the Trojans ended the game in the bottom
of the fifth by adding four more runs, including
RBI singles by Alter, Taylor Thompson, and Brandon King to complete the
game.

The Trojans scored 7 runs in the first inning
and never looked back as they defeated the Tigers 12-3 in the second
game of the doubleheader. The first six batters reached.
Tyler Henry, Brandon King, and Brett Gantt each drove in
single runs with singles, and C.J. Shaw drove in two with his
single. Two more Tiger errors led to 3 of the runs being
unearned. Handley notched a run in the second on a Pat Aubrey
double and a single by Brandon McKinney, but the
Trojans equalled that run with a long homerun by King. The
Trojans scored two in the bottom of the fourth on RBI
groundouts by Ted Brewer and Adam Mills, and two in the bottom of the
sixth when Jason Soriano singled in runners
who had reached on errors. Lance Fisher hit a two run homerun in
the fifth off winning pitcher Soriano. Brewer came
in and shut down the Tigers in the final two innings to preserve the
doubleheader sweep.
