St. James started off the 2004 Varsity Season with a 19-hit attack while limiting the opposing Trojans to only 3 hits
as our Trojans defeated 5A Charles Henderson in the season and home opener, and first game for new head coach
Keith Lucky, 10-1.  The Trojans started off hot in the bottom of the first.  Jason Soriano doubled, Bruce Alter singled,
and Guy Martin drove in the first run of the season with another single.  After C.J. Shaw hit into a fielders choice, Taylor
Thompson singled in Alter, stole second, and advanced to third with Shaw scoring on a wild pitch.  Drew Gunn then
singled in Thompson for the fourth run of the inning.  A Brandon King single knocked out hard luck Charles Henderson
starter Matt Johnson after only 1/3 of an inning pitched.  Chase Kelly took over and put out the fire temporarily.  Charles
Henderson scored their only run in the top of the second, on a walk, a stolen base, and a single by Chris Booker.  A
subsequent double left two runners in scoring position and the tying run at the plate, but Thompson struck out Drew
Walker to end the threat.  The Trojans from Troy would not threaten the lead again.  St. James added three in the second
inning.  With one out, Bruce Alter reached on an error, the only one in a well-played first game.  Martin singled, and Shaw
drove them both in with a long double.  Shaw advanced on a Thompson single and scored later on a balk.  St. James
added a single run in the fifth inning on a Soriano double, and singles by Martin and Thompson.  Two more runs were
pushed across in the sixth inning as Brandon King and Mitch Lawrence singled and Soriano walked to load the bases.
After a deep fly out by Alter, Martin and Shaw each singled in runs to generate the final score of 10.  Ted Brewer pitched
three perfect innings of relief, allowing only one ball out of the infield while striking out three, for a save.  Brandon King,
making the start at third base, made two very fine plays in the seventh inning to protect Ted's perfect outing.
